Merlin's Haven New Beginnings

In February 2024, Merlin's Haven was given the devastating news that the landlord was selling the land that the shelter was running on. This meant a huge uncertainty for all the animals in our care, and so began the huge task of ensuring we could continue our important work by rebuilding our shelter on new land, owned by us, so that this uncertainty can never be experienced again. 

Through the incredible support of the Merlin's community, previous adopters, friends of Merlin's, and many wonderfully kind people, we have managed to fundraise a brilliant amount of money that has meant we've been able to secure the new land with a wall and fencing, purchase and build new kennels and stables, and start to put in place essentials like water, plumbing, electricity and a kitchen/office for our volunteers. 

There is still plenty that needs to be achieved, including solar power, trees and shade, and additional kennels so we can support even more dogs in the future, but we would love you to take a look at the photos below to see what we have achieved so far, thanks to your incredible generosity.

 

We genuinely could not have done this without your support, and we would like to say a massive thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Your kindness means so many dogs will be able to find the forever homes they so massively deserve.

Dear Merlin's Family,

Since our announcement on 29 February about the uncertain future of Merlin's Haven, your outpouring of support and dedication has been nothing short of miraculous. Together, we have faced challenges head on and come out stronger than ever.

Here's a glimpse of where we stand now:

Current Location: Thanks to your unwavering support, we have managed to secure a truce with our landlord and maintain a portion of our current premises until we can transition to our new location. We therefore have 3 months left to get things sorted.

Rehoming: Despite the difficult decision to stop accepting new dogs, we have successfully found forever homes for 39 dogs and have 8 more scheduled to leave at the end of June. However, there are still 27 precious pups in need of loving homes, and we continue to work tirelessly to make this happen.

Fundraising: Fundraising efforts have been in full swing, with events in Cyprus drawing crowds and adopters going above and beyond with their own innovative fundraisers. Thanks to your generosity, we have raised an impressive €59,702.

Progress on the new Merlin's is already underway, with the boundary wall/fence construction and commissioning of 4 kennels in motion. However, we still have a way to go, and your continued support is crucial.

Next Steps: We have set our sights on raising an additional €30,000 before we move to build more kennels and accommodate at least 20 dogs in our new location. Your help in spreading the word, participating in upcoming events, and contributing to our fundraisers will make all the difference.
